There are so many hardware available specially made for gaming. Some of them are the gaming mouse, headsets, keyboards, sound cards and a lot more that target the game lovers. There is now another hardware on the queue – the gaming router. These routers provide an improved gaming experience when played online. They are slightly different from the standard routers favouring the gamers and there are some features that make them different.
Features of Gaming Routers
The “gaming” features generally found in the gaming routers give a boost in network speed irrespective of whether it is a wireless or wired network connection.
- Ethernet Ports: The Gigabit Ethernet ports offer very high network speeds. Wired connections are faster than the wireless connection and has low-latency.
- Dual Band Wi-fi Connectivity: All the higher end routers usually support dual-band Wi-Fi networking. This allows them to transmit data in two channels at the same time. Thus, the wireless network capacity of the router is increased.
- 11ac Wireless Standard: This is a new standard and gaming routers that have a high-end hardware that supports this standard. Please note that the 802.11ac standard matters only if the hardware in the router is 802.11ac compatible.
- Quality of Service: Quality is also known as “Stream boost technology”. It is a type of engine that does “traffic shaping”. Suppose, if you want the router to prioritize your gaming traffic and someone else in your home is using a software for downloading huge amount of data, the “StreamBoost” feature is an intelligent traffic-shaping feature that helps you in prioritizing things as your wish. Quality of Service is a very useful feature and make the gaming experience more reliable.
All the above features need not be exclusive to the gaming routers. But these features are not available in the low-end routers that are available at cheap prices. They are available in all the high-end routers and offer faster network speeds.
